Meryl is a certified clinician for Lee Silverman Voice Treatment developed for people with Parkinson's Disease. See the website for more details: http://www.lsvtglobal.com/patient-resources. This therapy approach is also useful for other client groups, mainly those with acquired speech difficulties due to neurological problems.

What does this involve?

A speech assessment involves a discussion of your concerns and the goals you have for your speech. We will generally need to take a baseline audio recording for analysis. We may also need to carry out a more structured assessment of your oral movements, articulation, breathing and voice (this varies depending on the type of issue). For children, a formal screening assessment may also be carried out assess the speech more systematically.

The specific speech techniques targeted will vary according to the type of speech difficulty you have. However, the therapy progression will remain the same moving you from accuracy in single words and short phrases to longer chunks of speech and everyday conversation.
